Week ending Mar 3, 2016 Vicksburg, Parker

We spent a few more days wandering in the canyons by Vicksburg. We discovered 3 abandon mines in one canyon. It looks like this is an area we can spend lots more time in. On our final day we did a walk around the camping area and noted the sites we feel are the premium sites for future years.

Tuesday morning we packed up and headed for La Paz County Park just north of Parker.  County parks do not take reservations, but we had been told if we arrive by 11:00 (check-out time) we are likely to get a space. No problem we got a space at this very pretty park along the Colorado River. After getting set up  we went for a walk along the river. The area across the river (in California) has beautiful rugged hills. We are appreciating having an abundance of water and electricity for a few days.

Wednesday was cleaning day for Joan. John greased the axles on the trailer.

Thursday morning we headed to Swansea Townsite, a ghost town about 30 miles  east of  Parker in the Buckskin Mountains.  The last 4 miles of the road into the townsite was very rough, narrow, and steep.   We were very thankful for our heavy duty truck and its ability to take us on our adventures. Just pass the summit of the pass into Swansea, we encountered two ladies on the road who had emptied everything out of their SUV to change a tire, and it turned out, to sleep for the night.   They had no jack, couldn't get the spare tire off the back, as it has an odd nut locking it on, and had two sizes of lug nuts on the tire.  (Murphy's Law working overtime?)  We didn't have the equipment to take the tires off, so having a jack didn't help.   One lady had given the people in a previous vehicle her son's phone number, so we carried on (on our way back out, they told us they had climbed up to the top of the hill and got a cell signal to get hold of her son).   In Swansea, we did the walking tour and enjoyed the scenic location.
